Microsoft has now released an ERP system that over time will be fused with Dynamics NAV 2018. We will look at Business Central, the roadmap of NAV, and what it means for the NP solutions.
From “Dynamics NAV” to “Dynamics 365 Business Central”
In December 2017, Dynamics NAV 2018 was released, and in April 2018 Business Central was introduced – initially as an app for Microsoft Dynamics 365. Before long, NAV 2018 and Business Central will be amalgamated into Business Central on-premise/hosted, from where the NAV name is removed.
The roadmap of Dynamics 365 Business Central
Both cloud and on-premise/hosted
The version of Business Central that was released in April 2018 is what Microsoft defines as a cloud solution. This means that the solution is handled on Microsoft’s data centers – not on your own servers or at the hosting center of your supplier. In other words, the solution is built on existing capacity at Microsoft’s and not a dedicated solution for you. With the “on-premise/hosted” version, the solution is installed on a server with dedicated capacity for your company – either on your own or a hosting center’s servers.
Business Central’s new features
Dynamics 365 Business Central comes with a number of new features. These features will also be a part of the upcoming Business Central on-premise/hosted version:
New user interface
Business Central has a user-friendly navigation with a clearer configuration of data. For the best possible user experience, you can personalize and adapt the pages with drag and drop functionalities.
Improved Excel integration
In Business Central, it is now possible to make changes in Excel and publish it directly in the solution. This makes it much easier to edit prices, item descriptions and other parameters.
Great possibilities to expand
Dynamics 365 Business Central is built to grow with your company in real time. It is easy to add extensions as well as additional stores or business areas.
Roadmap of NP solutions
It is crucial for NaviPartner to deliver well-proven business solutions that benefit from the newest technologies. With that said, it is a comprehensive job to transfer industry-specific solutions into an app for Microsoft Dynamics 365, as the solution needs a completely new setup.
Therefore, the roadmap for our solutions are as follows: As soon as Business Central on-premise/hosted is released in fall of 2018, we begin making the changes that ensure a stable transition from NAV 2018 to Business Central on-premise/hosted. From that point, we continue developing a cloud solution as an app for Dynamics 365. All of this ensures, that our customers both get a well-proven industry solution as well as the benefits of Business Central.
