Hey everyone! Slavko here, Web Developer at NaviPartner. If you’ve ever stood in a massive, slow-moving queue outside an amusement park, museum, or zoo, you know exactly how frustrating a clunky entry process can be. For a visitor, the experience starts at the gate. For us on the development team, that meant creating a scanning solution that is incredibly fast, foolproof for staff, and flexible enough to handle everything from standard paper tickets to automated physical turnstiles.
That’s how NP Ticket Scanner was born. Instead of just telling you what it can do, I want to take you behind the scenes and show you exactly how our solution works in practice. I’ve put together a series of short interactive videos to walk you through every feature and show you how easy it is to educate your team and transform your venue’s entry experience. Let’s dive into the capabilities!
1. Scanner selection: Tailoring the app to your position
When a staff member opens the Ticket & Member Scan application for the first time, they need to hook it up to their physical location. This initial setup lets the operator select their specific scanner from a pre-configured list (like the Main Gate, VIP Entrance, or a specific attraction checkpoint). The app remembers this choice for all subsequent scans. This ensures decentralized scanning across multi-gate venues while maintaining perfect centralized control, as the scanner ID dictates which admission codes are valid and logs all data for clean auditing.
2. Gate mode setup: Secure hardware integration
For high-traffic venues looking to run unmanned speed gates or physical turnstiles, we built Gate Mode. This setup establishes a direct connection with turnstile hardware via WebSockets. To keep things highly secure, configuration requires a two-factor verification step: entering a secure API key (which can be typed or scanned directly from a printed configuration sheet) and selecting the specific company. The system validates the key in real-time, preventing any unauthorized configuration changes even if someone accesses the browser.
3. Valid ticket admission: The sub-second green light
This is the bread-and-butter of the application: processing a standard valid ticket. When a visitor presents their barcode on a mobile screen or paper printout, the operator scans it, and the system instantly checks the backend for validity dates, ticket type, and previous usage. When approved, the screen flashes green with a prominent “APPROVED” message, plays a success sound, and logs the entry. To keep operations moving fast during peak hours, the app automatically resets back to the ready-to-scan screen after 30 seconds of inactivity.
4. Already-used ticket detection: Stopping fraud at the door
Protecting your venue’s revenue means ensuring a ticket can’t be passed back or copied. When an already-admitted ticket is scanned, NP Ticket Scanner immediately flags it with a red warning screen. Crucially, it doesn’t just say “denied”, it displays the exact timestamp and scanner ID where that ticket was first used. This gives your front-line staff the precise data they need to resolve guest disputes calmly and accurately right at the turnstile.
5. Group ticket admission: Smart capacity tracking
Tour groups, school trips, and corporate events shouldn’t cause a bottleneck. When a group ticket is scanned, the app intelligently prompts the operator with a full-screen numpad to enter the actual number of people entering. This is a game-changer for capacity management: if a tour group ticket is valid for up to 25 people, but only 18 show up, the operator enters “18,” and the system accurately logs the remaining headcount for revenue and safety reporting.
6. Ticket lookup: Quick verifications without accidental admits
Sometimes managers or security staff need to inspect a ticket’s status without actually checking the person into the venue. Ticket Lookup mode does exactly that, it retrieves the most recent scan attempt, location, and status for verification. To prevent costly mistakes, this mode uses a completely distinct visual design and sound notification so staff never accidentally trigger a double-admission while investigating a guest query.
7. Member card recognition: Turning transactions into personal greetings
We believe members deserve a VIP experience. When a membership card is scanned, the application instantly pulls the member’s complete profile, displaying their name, membership tier, and a prominent profile photo. This allows your gate staff to greet them personally by name (“Welcome back, Anna!”) and visually confirm that the person holding the card matches the profile, preventing membership sharing while elevating the guest experience.
8. Member guest admission: Flexible guest counter tracking
Many premium membership tiers allow members to bring a couple of guests along. NP Ticket Scanner handles these complex rules seamlessly. Upon scanning a member card, the screen displays interactive counters showing their daily guest allowances, how many guests they’ve already brought today, and quick-select buttons to admit new ones. This ensures your most loyal visitors enjoy their perks while your venue retains absolute control over attendance numbers.
9. Blocked or expired membership: Turning friction into renewal revenue
When an expired or lapsed membership card is scanned, the system flags it clearly with a red screen showing the exact expiration date. Instead of an awkward “access denied,” your staff can turn this into a positive touchpoint by directing the guest to the desk for a renewal. If a card has been specifically “BLOCKED” due to policy violations or payment issues, the app displays a distinct status, signaling staff to route the visitor directly to customer service.
10. Member lookup: Complete access auditing
For deep insights and dispute resolution, Member Lookup mode gives management a transparent view of a member’s recent history, including guest admissions, timestamps, and entry locations. It also includes an automatic “RE-ENTRY” indicator if the member is already flagged as being inside the venue, which is incredibly useful for detecting card-abuse or handling exit-and-return policies.
11. Wallet multi-asset scan: One code, endless credentials
Managing multiple barcodes for a single family trip is a hassle. Our NP Wallet feature solves this by bundling multiple tickets, membership cards, parking passes, or VIP vouchers into a single digital QR code. When scanned at the gate, the app displays a clean selection list of all available assets inside that wallet, allowing the operator to tap and redeem only the item needed for that specific entry point.
12. City card integration: Seamless tourist program connections
If your venue participates in city-wide tourism initiatives (like the Copenhagen Card), you don’t need a separate scanning device. NP Ticket Scanner integrates directly with external city card providers like docLX. Staff simply scan the card through our standard interface, and the system instantly verifies if the card is active, if your venue is included in their package, and whether it has already been used.
13. Walk-up ticket creation: Point of sale right at the gate
To eliminate long lines at the main ticket office, we empowered gate staff to create and admit tickets on the spot. The interface features quick-select quantity buttons for walk-up visitors. For safety and peace of mind, if an operator accidentally selects a massive quantity (like 100+ tickets), a built-in confirmation dialog pops up to prevent accidental mass ticket generation.
14. Gate (valid ticket): Ultra-fast throughput for turnstiles
When switched to automated Gate Mode, the display timing dynamically shrinks to just 3 seconds. The moment a valid ticket is scanned, a WebSocket signal fires directly to the physical turnstile hardware to unlock the gate. The screen briefly flashes green before resetting, enabling continuous, high-throughput entry with zero manual intervention required.
15. Gate (invalid ticket): Locked-tight security
When an invalid or fraudulent ticket is presented at an automated gate, the system responds instantly by keeping the turnstile firmly locked. The screen flashes red for 4 seconds, giving the visitor plenty of time to read the specific error message (like “Already Used” or “Expired”) and find out where they need to go for help. A real-time timestamp remains visible at the bottom of the screen, allowing security cameras to easily correlate and log the incident.
16. Gate (member admission): Automated VIP entrance
Regular members without guest attachments breeze straight through – the moment the card is scanned, the system validates it in the background, displays a personalized welcome with their name and photo, and the gate opens immediately in one fluid motion. It’s the seamless, frictionless entry experience that modern loyalty programs demand.
17. Gate (member + guests): Interactive automation
Even at an unmanned turnstile, handling a member with guests is remarkably smooth. When the card is scanned, the automated screen presents interactive guest selection controls. The member simply taps how many guests they are bringing in on the display, confirms, and the gate opens repeatedly for the member and each guest sequentially, tracking every single headcount.
18. Gate (re-entry detection): Smart perimeter control
If a member card is scanned at an automated entry gate while that member is already registered as being inside, the screen immediately displays a specialized ‘RE-ENTRY’ notification, giving staff a clear visual cue to spot unusual movement patterns.
19. Scan history audit: Total operational transparency
Every single action taken at a scanning station is tracked in the Scan History dashboard. This screen provides operators and managers with a real-time, color-coded chronological log of all successful admissions, rejections, and guest counts. Staff can click on any past log to view full transaction details, making shift handoffs smooth and providing clear data for operational monitoring.
